Montessori Inspired Felt Red Clover Puzzle: Botany Study

I’ve seen many beautiful felt puzzles posted over the years and I thought it would be fun to make one for my Ireland Unit. Initially I was going to do the Shamrock, since it’s Ireland’s national flora, but decided instead to do a red clover plant because my preschooler would be able to relate to this better as we have clover here in Colorado, whilst Shamrocks not so much.

I made a simple outline of the different pieces of the plant, and cut them out of a few different colors of felt. You can download my pattern as well as the tags HERE.

What is nice about this puzzle is that each part of the plant must be put together, then you can label each part – great for not only a Ireland unit, but also any botany unit!

It is a little advanced for my three year old, but she recognized it from our walks last summer and could pick out the flower, leaflets and roots, and she pronounced the words I said back to her. I like challenging my kiddo because you never know what they’ll pick up! 🙂
