My toddler is obsessed with Surprise Eggs, so I created these Easter Egg Surprises for her our of paper mache.
First cut old newspapers into strips about 1″ wide and 6″ long. You’ll need about a sheet or two for each finished “egg”
Blow up a water balloon and attach it to a string to hang it it.
Mix your paste – you’ll need 1 part flour and two parts water. It should be like a thin paint when completely mixed.
You’ll need to have your balloon hanging – I used a chair, but you can hang it from a coat-hanger, light fixture, etc…
Dip each piece of newspaper into flour paste and wipe off extra.
Layer it across balloon, continue until entire balloon has 2-3 layers.
Allow to dry thoroughly.
Cut balloon to deflate and reveal paper egg.
Cut a hole in the front of the egg.
Stuff your eggs with goodies!
Cut a shape in the newspaper and trim so edges fit over the hole in the egg.
Cut a piece of aluminum foil to fit over hole.
Glue aluminum foil over shape cutout. I like E6000 because it adheres to aluminum foil.
Tape foil piece over hole in front of egg.
Mix up more paste and paper mache around the edges to secure new opening to front.
Allow to dry for 24 hours.
Pain eggs fun colors with non-toxic paint.
Allow your kid to open them by pressing on the aluminum foil to puncture.
